MERANTI ISLANDS — PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues discussions and updates to its Community Development and Empowerment Master Plan (RIPPM) in the company’s operational areas. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that the company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs are designed to address community needs while remaining aligned with the development priorities of the Kepulauan Meranti Regency Government.
The RIPPM discussion was held at the Kepulauan Meranti Regent’s Office, Riau Province, on Tuesday (September 1, 2026), involving the local government, representatives of the Riau Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Agency (ESDM), subdistrict and village governments, as well as other stakeholders.
The forum served as a platform to evaluate and update community development and empowerment plans to ensure that programs implemented by PT TIMAH deliver more targeted, measurable, and sustainable benefits.
Several sectors were highlighted during the discussion, including infrastructure development and improvement, community economic empowerment, support for fishermen and MSMEs, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, socio-cultural development, as well as disaster mitigation and response.
The involvement of local governments and communities is considered essential, as the needs and characteristics of each area vary. By establishing communication from the planning stage, community empowerment programs are expected to address local challenges while also developing the potential of communities living around the company’s operational areas.
Kepulauan Meranti Regent H. Muhammad Adil welcomed PT TIMAH’s initiative to provide a platform for communication in the preparation and updating of the RIPPM.
“We welcome and appreciate PT TIMAH Tbk for continuing to provide opportunities for communication and involving the local government and communities in the preparation of the RIPPM. This activity is an important opportunity to directly hear the needs of the community, identify challenges in the field, and formulate empowerment initiatives that can foster self-reliance,” said the Regent.
According to him, PT TIMAH’s presence in Kepulauan Meranti Regency, particularly in Rangsang Subdistrict, is expected to make a positive contribution to regional development.
Several strategic needs highlighted during the discussion included support for road infrastructure, strengthening the economic capacity of fishermen and MSMEs, as well as collaboration in addressing forest and land fires.
The local government hopes that communication and coordination between the company, government, and communities can continue to be strengthened so that the various programs developed can deliver tangible benefits to residents.
Through the RIPPM update, PT TIMAH seeks to align the implementation of its community development and empowerment programs with the conditions and needs of communities in its operational areas. This approach is expected to ensure that TJSL programs go beyond short-term assistance and instead contribute to greater self-reliance and improved quality of life for local communities.
In addition to strengthening the local economy, attention is also being given to improving the quality of human resources through education and healthcare initiatives. At the same time, environmental and socio-cultural aspects remain important to ensure that the company’s operations can coexist harmoniously with the lives of local communities.
PT TIMAH also continues to promote collaboration with local governments and stakeholders as part of its efforts to develop more integrated programs.
With RIPPM discussions conducted regularly, community development and empowerment programs are expected to continue adapting to the evolving dynamics and needs of local communities.
Previously, PT TIMAH had also conducted RIPPM discussions in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. (*)
